จุดเด่น ของ ControlLogix Platform คือ ความพร้อมใช้งานสูง (High Availability) ด้วยความสามารถในการทำ Redundant Controller เพื่อความต่อเนื่องในการควบคุม Process ด้วย Controller 2 ชุดทำงานขนานกันในโหมด Active-Standby การถอดหรือเสียบโมดูลโดยไม่ต้องปิดไฟ (Hot swap) การเพิ่ม/ลด/แก้ไข I/O module ได้แบบ online โดยไม่ต้องหยุดการทำงานของ PLC ก่อน ความสามารถเหล่านี้เองทำให้ ControlLogix เหนือกว่า CompactLogix และมักจะถูกใช้เป็น Line Controller หรือ Plant Controller ขนาดใหญ่

จุดเด่น ของ ControlLogix 5580 คือ ความเร็ว CPU ที่เร็วกว่ารุ่นเก่า (5570 Series) ถึง 11 เท่า ทำให้เหมาะอย่างยิ่งในงานควบคุม Servo Motor ด้วย CIP™Motion จำนวนหลายๆ แกน และยังมาพร้อมกับพอร์ต Ethernet ที่ถูกอัพเกรดใหม่ เป็นความเร็วระดับ Gigabit อีกด้วย โดยที่คุณสมบัติการถอดหรือเสียบโมดูลโดยไม่ต้องปิดไฟ (Hot swap) การเพิ่ม/ลด/แก้ไข I/O module ได้แบบ online โดยไม่ต้องหยุดการทำงานของ PLC ก่อน นั้นยังคงทำได้เช่นเดิม แต่ยังไม่รองรับการทำ Redundant Application ในขณะนี้
